XRDS SNOW TRIP 2012
We dare you!
Sixth edition
The Xrds Snow Trip of 2012 is going to be quite different: new location, bigger house, more people, bigger ski area. But some things are going to be exactly the same: great community, good food, challenging teaching, wonderful snow fun and fine worship. So you definitely want to be part of it!
When, who, where?
When: from Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 through Saturday March 10th, 2012. Ski pass is for Sunday through Friday.
Who: all ages, from 18 years and upwards.
Where: Oberengadin, St. Mortiz area. Check out www.snowsafari.ch for the ski area. The combined 5 ski areas cover 331 kilometers of snow runs, from 1750 to 3303 meters high. There’s lots of fresh powwow to be gotten, so if you want to dig into it, read on.
Location and catering
We’re staying in Chesa Quattervals (www.quattervals.ch) in the little, quaint village of S-chanf, down the valley. The house can sleep more people; however, to avoid a crowd, we’re limiting it to 62 people. You do have to bring your own towels. From the village, it’s a train ride away from some of the biggest and highest ski areas of Switzerland.
The Snow Trip is fully catered and we have again secured the excellent and volunteer services of Margaret and Leila to be the chefs of the week.
However, we will ask all participants to help out with some cleaning up around the house and washing the dishes. So, everybody gets assigned some jobs during the week. As a return, you get a great week against an affordable price.
Rooms are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. When the trip is fully booked, we will place a few people on the waiting list, just in case somebody cancels.

House alert
Don’t expect Club Med. The house is older and rustic (but clean!). Most rooms have more than 4 people sleeping in a room, even up to 12. It provides for great community experience, but not a typical quiet retreat time. So come prepared to dive in and be part of a group experience. Normally, the house doesn’t provide bed linen, but to make it more comfortable for you –special service of the Snow Trip Team - your bed will be made when you arrive!
Transportation
There’s a bus leaving from Duivendrecht station on Saturday morning early (7am!). That’s the only place where you can get on. Prices include a ticket for the bus. The bus will also bring you back to Duivendrecht after the week. If you want to go with your own transportation, you can get a discount on the price, but count on having obligatory snow tires, snow chains (you have to cross a mountain pass in winter time!) and the Swiss autobahn sticker. There’s room for approximately 35 people on the bus. First come, first serve.
Material and passes
The price for the trip includes rental of skis and ski boots, or snowboard and boots. You can choose yourself what you want to do, as long as you come along to hit the slopes (no walkers, no langlaufers, sorry). If you don’t need equipment because you are bringing it yourself, you will get a discount on the price. The ski pass covers all four ski areas and includes all transportation between the areas (trains, busses, gondola’s, lifts).
Price alert.jpg)
The Oberengadin/St. Mortiz area is about the most expensive area of Switzerland. Prices are much higher than in the areas that we have visited before. That, and the exchange rate for the Swiss francs, are the reasons why this Snow Trip is more expensive than previous years. Also the prices on the slopes will be more expensive, so count on spending some more money, or take some more sack lunch with you during the day! It is good for you to know that all Snow Trip team members that ski of snowboard themselves are paying the full price as well, so you are not paying for anybody else. Nobody gets any special discount.

Lessons
You can participate in lessons by the local official Swiss ski school in the Celerina area. If you register for lessons at registration for the trip, we can get you in on the group discount, as we are hiring ski instructors (and possibly snowboard instructors) to teach the lessons. For the price to be affordable, the classes need to be (semi-) full, so we can’t completely guarantee that you will be able to be in a class. But let us know and we will try to get everybody in. Beginners have preference though.
Shaking your world
A Xrds Snow Trip wouldn’t be a Xrds Snow Trip if there wouldn’t be teaching and worship! Let’s be honest about it: we want to shake your world a little (or a whole lot), so that you will find resolve and courage to start or continue to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. During the week we will take three evenings to come together for that. Bring your Bible, bring your questions and let’s get to the table. We double dare you!
Prices and registration
You can only register by e-mail. First come = first serve; there are limited places to fill. Please download the
WORD registration form from this webpage. Complete it and mail it to snowtrip@caiway.net. After you have received a notification from us that you are in, you will immediately have to pay a non-refundable deposit of € 100. If the payment for this deposit takes too long, you will be scratched from the list, so pay it immediately when you have heard from us that you are on board. If you cancel later on, you won’t get your deposit back!
On Sunday afternoon February 19th, 2012, there will be a ‘Meet-and-Greet’, where you will receive an information package and you can ask all the questions that you might have about the trip. By the end of January 2012 at the lastest, you must pay the remainder of the price for the trip, so start saving!
Travel and cancellation insurance (including coverage for winter sports!) is your own responsibility. Past experiences show it is a prudent idea to arrange some coverage!
Read your mail!
We will only communicate with you by e-mail after you have sent in your registration form, so check your e-mail regularly, also when you have been put on the waiting list. No mail = no existence = no go.
Talk?
If you want to speak to someone about the Snow Trip before you dare to register, you can call Anton Stokes 06-41372977, or Nico & Leila Hoogenraad, 0297-344785.
